March 2016 Visit to India

In early March a group of twelve: Trustees,  members of the India Project fundraising group and friends, set out on the long flight from Scotland to Mumbai,  India.  Arriving in Pune the team stayed at the  Sangam – World Association of Girl Guides and Girl  Scouts – Centre.  Previously many of the group have enjoyed happy visits to Sangam.

Once rested the group set off on the ninety mile journey to the village of Bori to visit the construction site. En-route there was a very happy reunion with Seema Wagmode and her husband Shirish who escorted the team the last few miles into the village. Before visiting the site there was a wonderful welcome from the villagers of Bori.

After lunch the team had their first sight of the building; most were surprised by the size of the building, much bigger than many had envisaged. The project manager gave the group a tour of the house.

There is still interior work to be completed but Seema is still hopeful that some of the older children will be in residence by June.

Further Funding Requirements:

Funds are still required to supply fixtures and fittings for the house : kitchen, beds and bedding, tables , chairs etc. If you can help in anyway please visit our donations page.

Visit to the Children

Two days later the team visited the children at Kayakalpa. Despite their very cramped surroundings the children were very well presented which was a credit to the staff who look after them with very limited facilities. The children were very excited at the prospects of moving to their new home.
